  The wine range is well selected and varied enough to provide a good alternative when looking for something more interesting than the usual high street offering. The cheeses are all at the top of their style and again provide a genuine alternative to the more commercial offerings found elsewhere.

  Im a food and wine writer and have suffered this place for the five years I've lived in Haslemere. The wine side, is actually OK. It will sell you over-priced grands crus if that's what you want, but suffers from not having the room necessary to make it into a really good specialist wine merchant. No, the problem is the waste of space deli 'Cheesebox' element. Haslemere is ripe for a really good deli, but this is not it. Although a cheese specialist, the selection here is genuinely feeble, and horribly overpriced. I asked for a decent epoisses the other day, a staple in any cheese specialist, and they had none. Now this shop is closed all day Monday - what they do on Monday's is not clear, but sourcing decent produce is not on their agenda it would seem. However, they sold me a Welsh 'epoisses' equivalent at £6.75 for a small package. Bland, doesnt even cover it. This was no more an epoisses than is DairyLea. For half the money, the local Co-op will actually sell you an OK epoisse, as does Waitrose, which begs the question, what is the point of this damn shop?. Their ham selection was equally feeble: A bit of Parma, some Serrano and a honey roast effort that was over-salted and plastic in texture. The rest of the produce is so limited as to be laughable. This is a lazy, lazy store that has got used to ripping off locals who know no better. The fact that the shop is closed all day Monday, for me, says it all. Haslemere Cellar should buy out Cheesebox and do Haslemere locals a proper service.
